ABOUT ME

Hi... I'm Sophie, creator of Yoga Lions!

​I teach yoga to children, teenagers and adults in the Kent and East Sussex area. 

Here’s a little bit about me..

  • Over ten years of experience working with children 

  • 1st class BA Hons degree in Childhood and Youth Studies

  • Yoga Bananas Kids qualification

  • Yoga Bananas Teen qualification

  • 200 Hour Adult Yoga Teacher Training with Live Love Yoga.

  • Chair Yoga Trained

  • Pregnancy, Postnatal and Baby and Me yoga training with Sally Parkes Yoga

I strongly believe that anybody of any age can experience the benefits of yoga. Yoga Lions was born out of my own love for yoga and the desire to bring these benefits to as many people as possible! With the building pressure and stresses that we all face in the modern world, it is vital for us to take time for ourselves to connect to our breath, move our bodies, make time to relax and remember what is truly important. It is a joy for me to be able to hold space for people and to share tools and techniques to help us feel more calm, connected and empowered in both body and mind.

YOGA LIONS KIDS

Kids Classes (3-11)

My Yoga Lions kids classes use the Yoga Bananas technique which is a creative, fun and structured way to teach the benefits of yoga to children. Yoga poses help the physical body by practicing flexibility, balance, strength and focus. We practice these poses through fun and adventurous stories where we travel to far off places such as Egypt and Africa! Focusing on our breath and practicing breathing techniques can help our minds feel calm, relaxed and in control.

After a class of physical and sometimes challenging yoga practice, my classes always end with a period of relaxation (eye pillows provided!) for us to take a moment of stillness and calm in our busy lives.

My kids yoga classes invite you to become part of the Yoga Lions Pride and are up to an hour long, accommodating a maximum of 15 children (age dependent). Lessons can be arranged through schools, during the school day, as a club outside of school time or privately through parents or carers. I am also available to do drop in sessions during periods of heightened stress in school such as SAT's time.

YOGA LIONS TEENS

Teen Classes (12-18)

My teen training with Yoga Bananas gave me a fantastic insight into the ways in which yoga and mindfulness can benefit teenagers, during a potentially difficult and pivotal time in a young persons life. My classes will use the Yoga Bananas technique to help us center and calm ourselves, relaxing the mind and using breathing techniques to help us through stressful times of anxiety or uncertainty. We will also practice yoga poses, stretches and sequences which will improve our physical health in an inclusive and non competitive way.

Today's modern world brings increasing amounts of stress and expectations for young people both in and out of school which can impact on mental health and body image. This is where I believe yoga can be used as a tool to encourage confidence in ourselves and our overall well being. When we practice yoga, everyone is treated equally. No one is 'better' than someone else. There is no judgement or expectation.

My classes invite you to become part of the Yoga Lions Pride and practice yoga to help you feel healthy and happy inside and out. A typical class may include stretches, breathing techniques, yoga poses and sequences, partner yoga and of course a relaxation (eye pillows provided!) for our end of class chill time.

My teen yoga classes are up to an hour long with a maximum of 15 students to ensure I can give proper alignment instruction and support.

Lessons can be arranged through schools, during the school day, as a club outside of school time or privately through parents or carers. I am also available to do drop in sessions during periods of heightened stress in school such as exam time.

YOGA LIONS ADULTS

My Yoga Lions Adult classes are a chance for you to step away from the busyness of life and take some time just for you. My aim with teaching yoga to adults is to make the sessions as inclusive and accessible as possible, welcoming adults of all ages and all levels of experience. My training with Live Love Yoga was predominantly focussed on the Vinyasa style in which we move the body whilst syncing with the breath, introducing an element of flow to the practice. For me, it is important to create a well rounded lesson in which everyone practicing can leave the session feeling like they have created more space both in body and mind. I always offer modifications and progressions to make sure everyone is accommodated and feels comfortable.

1;1 or small group sessions, available at your home, tailored specifically for your needs.

Chair Yoga

If for any reason you need/want to practice yoga in a chair, there is still so much we can do! We can get you moving, connect to your breath and find a sense of calm and relaxation, whatever your ability.

Pregnancy/Post Natal/Baby and Me Yoga

Yoga to help support you through the immense and amazing changes that occur during and after pregnancy. Keeping strong and healthy in body and mind, cultivating a strong connection to the breath and giving yourself time and space to relax, before, during and after your baby's arrival.

Corporate yoga

 Bringing yoga and mindfulness into the workplace either before/after work as the perfect antidote to your busy working day or during your lunch hour to find some space in body and mind. A great way to support physical and mental well being to your staff members.

Special occasion yoga

Add a bit of relaxation to your event, whether it a birthday, a hen do or just a girls or boys night in!
